Mesut Ozil Apologises For Failing To Applaud Arsenal Fans After Man City Defeat

Mesut Ozil has apologised to Arsenal fans after failing to acknowledge them following the Gunners 6-3 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

The north Londoners slumped to a disappointing loss at the Etihad Stadium to see their lead at the top of the Premier League cut to just two points.

Defender Per Mertesacker was seen to be furious with his German team mate as Ozil walked straight off the pitch after the final whistle without staying behind with the rest of the squad to applaud the away fans.

A lot was made of the incident on social media sites yesterday but the former Real Madrid man has used his Facebook page to apologise to the AFC fans for his actions.

“Sorry I didn’t thank the fans at the end of the game!

“You have been brilliant to me and I know you had travelled a long way and spent your money to support us.

“I was upset with the result and know I should have come to you to say ‘thank you’ and I know it is a big Arsenal tradition win, lose or draw.”

Ozil was probably not only disappointed with the result but also with his own performance, as despite picking up yet another assist, the playmaker was at fault for City’s crucial third goal and generally had a quiet day at the office.

Arsene Wenger seemed relaxed about the Mertesacker-Ozil incident after the game, casually saying that the ‘Germans will sort it out between themselves’, so the club will hope this can be quickly forgotten.

Arsenal will be thankful of a nine-day rest now before entertaining Chelsea at the Emirates where they will look to get their title push back on track following a disappointing week.
