Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a January swoop for highly rated Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons, according to reports. The French u21 international has been a long term target of the Gunners boss who now looks likely to approach Lyon for his services.

Wenger sees Gonalons as the ideal shield for his back four. Technically excellant Gonalons is tall, strong and a natural defensive midfielder. A large fee of around £10-12million is expected as Gonalons has a contract until 2014 but with record profits and a hefty transfer kitty available Arsene Wenger will not be put off by this fee. Lyon will not want to lose their home grown star but the lure of Wenger and Arsenal will be too much for the young Frenchman to ignore….

And why does anyone believe we need one – we have several full internationals capable of doing that job (Song, Diaby, Wilshere, Nasri, Djourou have all played as DM) + Eastmond & Frimpong.

That will be nice, its does matter where he is from.As far as he is good, tall, strong(i mean an enforcer in the midfield) and if does violate the home grown rule.If we do this and sign a goal keeper in the class of chech, Vanderser, or Jaaskelane(pardon for the spelling,i mean Bolton goal keeper)i can bet it we will win something atleast any of FA,Champions league or Premiership.

i believe we DO need a defensive midfielder.
denilson is more a link player, song is good but not on the level of the best, wilshire is not one- that is plain silly to say, djorou is c/b with emergency fill in duties, eastmond and fromp[ong too young, diaby-defensive-??? he never holds his position, nasri is aqn engine-wasted on pure defensive duties. have the number of goals conceded not convinced people we need one and quickly

Rather French players with great technical ability than rubbish English style kick and run mentality ?
