Arsenal In Contact With Madrid Over Morata But Wenger Want’s Big-Money Striker

Arsenal are in contact with Real Madrid over the potential loan signing of Alvaro Morata but Arsene Wenger’s preference is to bring in a big-money signing.

With the January transfer window now open for business clubs will be working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Arsenal’s striker search hots-up.

Alvaro Morata

Arsenal are in contact with Real Madrid over the potential loan signing of Alvaro Morata but Arsene Wenger’s preference is to bring in a big-money signing, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners need for reinforcements up front increased this week with attacker Theo Walcott ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The latest set-back leaves the boss with little option but to bring in another striker this month or risk derailing the north Londoners title push during the second half of the season.

We’ve been linked with a whole host of names in recent weeks and the Mail claim Wenger’s preference would be to sign one of his prime targets on a permanent basis, with Diego Costa, Mario Mandzukic an Edin Dzeko understood to be his key targets.

However, the club believe signing one of the trio is going to be extremely difficult this month and if this proves to be the case, the contingency plan is to try and bring someone in on a short-term basis.

The newspaper suggests Wenger feels Spanish youngster Alvaro Morata would be the perfect stop-gap and state that Arsenal chiefs are already in contact with Real Madrid about trying to bring the 21-year-old to the Emirates on a six-month loan. Madrid are reluctant to let the player leave but the Metro claim the we will offer them a £2m loan fee in the coming days to try and twist their arm.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks to see what business we do in the window, but I think it’s fair to say Arsenal fans will be extremely disappointed if a new front-man doesn’t arrive.
