Kevin De Bruyne has moved a step closer to ending his Chelsea nightmare after agreeing personal terms with Wolfsburg ahead of a potential £17m move, according to the Daily Mail.

The Belgian youngster has barely featured this season under Jose Mourinho and has been linked with a a move back to the Bundesliga having enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Werder Bremen last year, where he scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in just 34 appearances.

It seems he’s left an impression with Wolfsburg as the Mail claim that they have now agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old’s agents and have offered Chelsea £17m to take the attacker back to Germany on a permanent basis.

The Blues have always maintained publicly that De Bruyne was not for sale but the newspaper suggests the West Londoners may be prepared to let the attacker leave on a six month loan deal that includes various clauses about a potential deal in the summer depending on how all parties feel at the end of the season.

Big things were expected of De Bruyne after Chelsea paid Genk £17m for him back in 2012, but he spent the following 18 months out on loan and hasn’t featured in the Premier League this season since way back in September.

With the likes of Willian, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle and Juan Mata all ahead of him in the pecking order, it seems likely that the Belgian international will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this month to secure regular action ahead of the World Cup, but the question will be whether it’s on loan on a permanent move.
