Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United - Premier League

Manchester United play host to Swansea City on Saturday looking to bounce back from a disappointing week.

Ahead of the game, boss David Moyes has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and gave ManUtd.com the latest team and injury news.

The big news is that striker Wayne Rooney will miss the Swansea game after being sent on a hot-weather break to try and help cure a niggling groin injury.

The 28-year-old has missed the last three games with the problem and Moyes has confirmed the forward has gone abroad with his family and fitness coach to try and accelerate his recovery with the hope he’ll be fit to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday 19 January.

Fellow striker Robin van Persie has been missing for over a month with a troublesome thigh injury and once again Moyes confirmed the Dutchman won’t feature this weekend.

Moyes told the clubs official website:

“Well, with Wayne we’ve sent him away on a hot-weather break.

“His groin isn’t quite recovered yet so we’ve sent the fitness coach with him and he’s away with his family. It will give Wayne a bit of break.

“We always hoped to be able to do it at some time in the season and the groin is not as good as we’d hoped. Hopefully we can get him fit for Chelsea but we’ll see how he is. He’s away and will do some work with the fitness coach.

“Robin is going to be a little while. We’ll do everything we can to get him back quickly.

“Wayne has got an injury and we have to hope for that, but we’ll see how it goes. It’s probably the right time to give it a chance to heal. We thought the best thing was to get to the warmer weather with one of the coaches and spend time with the family as well and it will make him better.”

There was no update on the fitness of Jonny Evans after the defender limped out of United’s 2-1 Capital One Cup semi final first leg defeat to Sunderland on Tuesday, but Phil Jones remains out with a knee problem although he could also be back to face Chelsea.

Marouane Fellaini (wrist), Ashley Young (shoulder), Nani (hamstring) and Rio Ferdinand (knee) are also still sidelined while Fabio is suspended following his sending off against Swansea last week.
