Arsenal + Man Utd Face Fight For £28m German As Sherwood Eyes Big-Money Buy

Arsenal and Manchester United will now have to fend off competition from Tottenham Hotspur for a £28m-rated German attacker this summer. Find out who he is here

With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Spurs enter the chase for Marco Reus.

Marco Reus

Tottenham have entered the race to sign Marco Reus and will battle it out with Arsenal and Manchester United for the £28m-rated Borussia Dortmund attacker this summer, according to the Metro.

Reus is regarded as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe and has continued his stunning form since joining Dortmund 18 months ago, scoring 22 goals in 49 Bundesliga appearances.

Understandably, his impressive display’s have seen him attract interest in his services with Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly keen on trying to lure him to the Premier League at the end of the season with Dortmund currently valuing him at around £28m.

However, it looks like the duo will now face fresh competition for the 24-year-old with the Metro reporting that Spurs will make Reus their No.1 summer transfer target as long as they qualify for the Champions League this season.

The newspaper suggests that Tottenham’s director of football, Franco Baldini, will be given the go-ahead by chairman Daniel Levy to try and bring the German international to White Hart Lane in a bid to turn Tim Sherwood’s side in to genuine title challengers.

It’s certainly an ambitious plan from Spurs but it remains to be seen whether they could realistically pull it off. Reus is likely to be on the radar of several top European sides if Dortmund decide to cash-in and he’ll attract interest from even more admirers if he stars for Germany at this summers World Cup.

It will be difficult enough for Tottenham to try and make Dortmund sell one of their star men, but then they’d need to persuade the player to come to England and choose them over more established sides such as Arsenal or Manchester United.

So, while it will be comforting for Spurs fans to read that their club is willing to think big and go for the elite players if they finish in the top four this season, I’m not convinced they have a chance of landing someone like Reus.
