Wenger Spies On Three Barcelona Players After Scouting Trip To Spain On Wednesday

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was in the stands to watch Barcelona take on Levante on Wednesday to keep a close eye on Pedro, Sergi Roberto and Cristian Tello

With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Arsene Wenger has been scouting at the Barcelona game.

Cristian Tello

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was in the stands to watch Barcelona take on Levante on Wednesday night with the Frenchman keeping a close eye on Pedro, Sergi Roberto and Cristian Tello, according to reports in Spain.

Wenger was pictured at Heathrow airport on Wednesday morning and it appears he was off to Spain with media outlet Mundo Deportivo claiming he was at the Ciutat de Valencia stadium to see Barcelona come from a goal down to book their place in the semi-final’s of the Copa del Rey with a 4-1 victory over Levante.

The newspaper suggests that Wenger was there to watch Barca trio Pedro, Roberto and Tello as he looks for potential new recruits before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

All three players started the game but the Gunners boss would have been particularly impressed by Tello’s performance as the attacker hit a second half hat-trick for the Catalans.

The Metro are reporting that it was midfielder Roberto who was the player that Wenger was most keen on watching, and suggests the player would be open to leaving in search of first team football and could be available for around £6m.

Of the three suggested by Mundo Deportivo, Pedro would be my clear favourite for a new signing but obviously he’ll be the most difficult to prize away from the Nou Camp.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past and he would be a superb addition if we could somehow pull it off. He would be more than capable of filling the void left by the injured Theo Walcott, but I’m certainly not getting my hopes up that any deal is possible this month. Realistically, Tello or Roberto would be far more attainable but I’m not convinced they’d be major upgrades on what we have already.
