Chelsea Blocking Mata Deal Until They Secure £11m Signing Of Liverpool Target Salah

Chelsea are holding up Juan Mata’s proposed £37m move to Manchester United until they manage to secure the signature of Liverpool target Mohamed Salah.

With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Chelsea are blocking Juan Mata’s exit until they secure his replacement.

Chelsea are holding up Juan Mata’s proposed £37m move to Manchester United until they manage to secure the signature of Liverpool target Mohamed Salah, according to the Mirror.

Widespread reports this morning claimed that Mata was due to arrive by helicopter at United’s Carrington training base today and was expected to complete his switch to Old Trafford within the next 24 hours.

While the Mirror suggest the 25-year-old will still travel north to meet David Moyes and undergo a medical, they claim that Chelsea are refusing to sign off any paper work until they have secured Mata’s replacement.

The bad news for Liverpool fans is that the man the Blues seemingly want is Mohamed Salah – the FC Basel winger who was understood to be on the verge of moving to Anfield. Speculation on Wednesday claimed that Salah would undergo a medical at Melwood on Friday after a deal was agreed between Liverpool and the Swiss champions.

However, news broke on Wednesday night that Chelsea had moved to hijack the transfer and the Mirror are reporting today that Jose Mourinho is hoping to beat the Merseysiders to an £11m deal and will refuse to rubber stamp Mata’s transfer to United until Salah is a Chelsea player.

This isn’t the first time that the west Londoners have hijacked a deal at the last minute as they were able to prize Willian to Stamford Bridge even AFTER the Brazilian had undergone a medical with Tottenham, and Liverpool fans will be praying that lightening doesn’t strike twice.

Chelsea’s plan leaves the transfers hanging in the balance as both could collapse if one falls through. There is also the question of what will Chelsea do if Salah end’s up signing for Liverpool? Will they hold on to Mata until they find someone else to fill his boots, or will they agree to complete the deal?

We’ve got just over a week left until the winter window slams shut so the clubs still have plenty of time to get the moves sorted, but it’s gearing up to be an interesting few days.
