Liverpool fans have been eagerly awaiting news on their pursuit of winger Yevhen Konoplyanka and it appears the move could be on the verge of falling through after the players agent claimed it’s now ‘very unlikely’ he’ll be joining Liverpool this month, according to reports.

The Ukrainian has been hotly tipped to move to the Premier League during the January window with Liverpool making the first move before Tottenham made a late attempt to hijack the deal on Wednesday.

This promoted the Reds managing director Ian Ayre to fly over to Ukraine to try and thrash out a deal with the players current club Dnipro and it was believed that a £16m deal was close after the winger reportedly agreed personal terms.

However, it seems things have now stalled with Goal bringing us quotes from Konoplyanka’s agent, Oliver Cabrera, that suggests the Ukrainian outfits owner, Thor Kolomoyskyi, doesn’t want to sell and they now accept that a deal is ‘very unlikely.

“We have a very good relationship with the president [Ihor] Kolomoyskyi and he doesn’t want to sell the player.”

“Yehven and his father respect that so a move is very unlikely.” He told Goal

The report suggests that the deal is not entirely dead, as the player still has his heart set on a move to Merseyside, but as things stand the club may find it difficult to persuade Kolomoyskyi to sell.

This news comes after similar reports came out of Russia earlier that also claimed Dnipro weren’t happy with how Liverpool were offering to pay the £16m fee, with Ukrainian media outlet Tribuna.com suggesting that the Reds wanted to pay a large portion in additional add ons based on the club qualifying for the champions league and Konoplyanka playing a certain amount of appearances, while Dnipro were insisting on the full amount being guaranteed up front.

It leaves the deal finely balanced and you’d have to say it would be a huge blow to Liverpool and the fans if they weren’t able to get the move tied up before tonight’s 11pm deadline. Obviously things can change very quickly and a breakthrough could be found any minute, so there is still hope for LFC fans.

There is also the possibility that Tottenham could make another late push to hijack the deal if they learn that Liverpool are struggling to agree terms over the payment structure with Dnipro.

It’s going to be a fascinating final few hours of the transfer window, and we’l bring you any of the latest developments as they happen.
