Arsenal Told To Pay £10m For Hitman After Wenger Fails With Late Loan Bid

Arsenal have been told to pay £10m for a Senegalese hitman after failing with an audacious last ditch attempt to take him on loan until the end of the season.

With the January transfer window entering it’s final stages clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of an Arsenal approach for a striker.

Papiss Cisse

Arsenal failed with an audacious last ditch attempt to take Papis Cisse on loan for the rest of the season with Newcastle United only interested in a £10m permanent sale, according to the Express.

We’ve been linked with a whole host of strikers throughout the day as Arsene Wenger frantically tries to add to his strike-force before the window slams shut and it appears his search led him to St James Park.

The Express are one of several media outlets who claim we made a late call to the Geordies to try and take Cisse on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

However, the newspaper suggests that Newcastle knocked back our approach and made it clear they would only be interested in selling the 28-year-old on a permanent basis with the striker valued at around £10m.

Cisse made a flying start to his career on Tyneside following his move from Frieburg in January 2012, scoring 13 goals in 14 games during the second half of the season.

But the Senegalese hitman has struggled to regain that kind of form over the last 18 months leading to him falling out-of-favour under Alan Pardew this season, and it looks like he could fall further down the pecking order following the arrival of Dutch striker Luuk De Jong.

It was certainly a shrewd move by Wenger as Cisse is experienced in the Premier League and would certainly have offered us something different up front, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen unless we’re prepared to make the move permanent and pay the required £10m fee.
