German Striker Left ‘Upset’ After Being Denied Arsenal Move

A prolific German striker was left deeply upset after he was denied a proposed loan move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day. Find out more details here.

With the January transfer window now closed for business, we look back at the signings clubs just missed out on and those which could now go through in the summer, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Gooner Mac tells us about a German striker that wanted to join Arsenal.

In what turned out to be a hugely underwhelming winter transfer window for Arsenal fans, it seems the club did at least make attempts to lure prolific German striker Miroslav Klose to the club on deadline day.

Rumours circulated on Friday morning claiming that Arsenal were in talks with Lazio about the possibility of signing the 35-year-old with the club apparently offering to pay the Italians £2m to take Klose on loan until the end of the season.

Unfortunately, the Serie A outfit resisted our approach, insisting the veteran was still a part of boss Edoardo Reja’s plans for the season, and Arsenal ended up empty handed.

However, reports suggest that Klose had gone to Lazio and asked to leave after learning of our interest and even sounded out Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski to ask them about life in north London.

The Metro claim that the veteran striker was left ‘upset’ after the move fell through as he felt playing for Arsenal would him secure a place in the German World Cup squad this summer.

I must admit I was a excited at the thought of Klose joining us as we’d finally have that ‘fox in the box’ striker that everyone keeps saying we need. If you want an out-and-out finisher, there aren’t many better in the world than the German hitman.

He’s proven throughout the years that he can find the net on a consistent basis and his career stats of 203 goals in 514 games as well as 68 in 130 for Germany shows he knows exactly where the goal is.

But it wasn’t to be and we failed to sign a striker in the end. Let’s just hope Olivier Giroud can stay fit and we don’t end up regretting our inactivity in January.
