The agent of Edinson Cavani flew in to London on Thursday to hold talks with a number of Premier League clubs about a potential £54m summer move to England, according to reports.

The Uruguayan hitman only moved to Paris Saint Germain from Napoli last summer but despite continuing his fine form in Ligue 1 – scoring 20 goals in 29 games – it seems he could be ready to leave France after just one season with a switch to the Premiership a distinct possibility.

The Daily Mail claim that he is growing increasingly unsettled at having to play out wide to accommodate for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and now the players representatives are in London to hold talks with interested parties about a potential move at the end of the season.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all understood to be in the running but the newspaper suggests PSG will demand at least the £54m they paid Napoli if they are to even consider letting the 26-year-old go this summer.

The Gunners have been tipped to bring in a new front-man to support Olivier Giroud over the past two transfer windows but so far boss Arsene Wenger has failed to find a suitable target. Perhaps the availability of Cavani will change that but the Frenchman would have to smash the clubs transfer record yet again if he wants to get his hands on the player.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already confirmed the club will be in the market for a striker this summer and a player of Cavani’s stature could be the final piece in the jigsaw at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues current crop of strikers all failing to convince on a consistent basis this campaign.

United’s interest is curious as David Moyes already has the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Adnan Januzaj to choose form in attack so it will be interesting to see how Cavani would fit in should the South American make the move to Old Trafford.

One thing is for certain, the Premiership would be a better place if we had Cavani playing here week-in, week-out, so let’s hope one of the clubs manages to pull off what would be a sensational transfer this summer.
