Raheem Sterling

Liverpool put in a 5 star display to thrash Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon with the triple threat of Sterling, Sturridge and Suarez ripping the visitors apart.

Here are the Football-Talk player ratings:

Liverpool

Mignolet 7/10

Had very little to do in truth but did make an excellent save to deny Arteta from a free-kick.

Flanagan 7/10

The enthusiastic full-back was up for the fight and didn’t let his manager down. Was solid in defence and got forward on occasion too.

Skrtel 9/10

Opened the scoring before making it 2-0 with a stunning header. Kept Giroud quiet all game.

Toure 7/10

Recovered from his mistake last week with a solid display against his former club.

Cissokho 7/10

Dealt with the threat of Oxlade-Chamberlain very well and didn’t really put a foot wrong.

Gerrard 8/10

Was superb once again in the deep-lying midfield role and set up the first two goals with excellent set pieces, until a rush of blood gave away a penalty on Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Henderson 7.5/10

Full of energy and his closing down helped rob the ball from Ozil for the fourth goal.

Coutinho 8/10

Delicious  through-ball from the Brazilian for Sturridge’s goal and he was a creative threat throughout.

Sterling 9.5/10

Sensational performance from the winger. His pace frightened the life out of the Arsenal back-four and he was unlucky not to get his hat-trick.

Sturridge 8.5/10

Took his goal expertly and was a constant thorn in the visitors team.

Suarez 9/10

It’s not often Liverpool score five without Suarez on the score-sheet but he more than made up for his lack of goals in other areas. He didn’t stop running, set up Sterling for his first and went close himself with a stunning free-kick. Slammed the post from 30 yards with a thunderous effort as well.

Subs:

Allen (6),  Ibe (6), Apsas (N/A)

Arsenal

Szczesny 5/10

Could do little about the five goals he conceded and was offered no protection from those in front of him.

Sagna 3/10

Very poor from the usually reliable Frenchman. Was given the run-around by Sterling all game.

Mertesacker 3/10

Simply couldn’t cope with the movement and pace of the Liverpool attackers.

Koscielny 3/10

Like his fellow defenders, Koscileny had no answers on how to keep the likes of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling quiet. Would also be disappointed with his part in the second goal.

Monreal 2.5/10

Surprisingly selected ahead of Gibbs and was well below par today before being hauled-off on the hour mark.

Arteta 4.5/10

Dispatched his penalty well and went close with a free-kick, but was badly over-run in midfield by Henderson and Gerrard.

Wilshere 5/10

Was back in the side but still didn’t look 100% match fit. At least he showed the desire to get the Gunners going but couldn’t do it all on his own.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 4.5/10

Nice surging run won the penalty but was isolated on the wing and didn’t see much of the ball until the final 20 minutes or so.

Cazorla 4/10

Very little creativity came from the little Spaniard. Drifted in and out the game but had nothing to offer in attack.

Ozil 3/10

Very disappointing display from the £42m man. Wenger will want a lot more from his record signing in the big games to come.

Giroud 3/10

An isolated figure up front with the Arsenal attack offering him little support or service, but he failed to do anything with it when he did get the ball and was shackled well by Skrtel.

Subs:

Podolski (5), Rosicky (5), Gibbs (5)
