Arsenal Boost As Midfielder Tipped For Quick Injury Comeback

Arsenal could be set to get a timely boost with January signing Kim Kallstrom being tipped to make a comeback from his back injury sooner than expected.

Arsenal could be set to get a timely boost with January signing Kim Kallstrom being tipped to make a comeback from his back injury sooner than expected, according to the Mirror.

The 31-year-old Swedish international was a shock signing on the final day of the January transfer window, with Arsene Wenger making his move for the experienced midfielder after Aaron Ramsey suffered a set-back in his recovery from a thigh injury.

The deal almost collapsed after it became apparent following his medical that Kallstrom had suffered a back injury that was initially expected to keep him on the sidelines for up to six weeks.

The club came to an agreement with Spartak Moscow that the Russians would continue to pay Kallstrom’s wages until he was fit again, so Wenger agreed to finalise the deal as it was too late on deadline day to find an alternative.

Obviously Arsenal fans weren’t too pleased that all we had to show from the January window was an ageing midfielder who wouldn’t be available for the first team for over a month.

However, it looks like he could be back sooner than expected with the Mirror reporting today that Kallstrom has been to see Dr. Leif Sward – who was the England doctor during Sven Goran Eriksson’s reign – at his clinic in Gothenburg and the club are now confident he’ll be back quicker than the initial six-week estimate.

The newspaper doesn’t give us a new time-frame for his return, only saying that Kallstrom is now due back at Arsenal’s training base where he will continue his rehabilitation.

With Ramsey injured for at least another 3-4 weeks, Jack Wilshere not 100% fit and Mikel Arteta looking knackered in recent games, I think it’s safe to say Kallstrom’s quick recovery would be a welcome boost.

He wasn’t expected to be anything other than a squad player when he was signed but we’ve been hit by some problems in the center of midfield recently so we could do with all the options we can get as he head into the final few months of the season.
