Barca Ditch Fabregas And Turn To Spurs’ Midfield Maestro

Written by Viorel Mesca.

Rumor has it that the Barcelona’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is keen on signing the diminutive playmaker in the summer of 2011. Both Elmundodeportivo and Sport have cited Daily Mail’s story that Modric could be Barcelona’s next star, as Pep seems fed up with Arsenal’s unwillingness to sell Fabregas. A fee in the region of €40 million is said to be used by the Spanish giants in order to secure the Croatian’s services.

Sir Alex Ferguson, one of Croatian’s biggest admirers, is also keen to bring the playmaker to United. Modric joined Spurs in the summer of 2008, for a fee in the region of €20 million and helped the team achieve a Champions League spot at end of last year’s Premier League campaign. On May 30th 2010, Modric was awarded with a new 6 year contract, that runs until 2016.

“The Croatian Cruyff” said after the deal:

“Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last season’s Top 4 finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs”.

With both Sir Alex Ferguson and recently Pep Guardiola keen on signing him, Tottenham will have a difficult task keeping the player at White Hart Lane.

Dear readers, do you think Modric will move to Barcelona next summer? Can Sir Alex Ferguson convince him to come to Old Trafford? Should the player leave Spurs, who do you think will be his replacement?

I was in Croatia just before he signed for Spurs, and everyone in Zagreb was really excited about him playing in England. Spurs are right for Modric, with V.D.Vaart as well he has no reason to leave. Man Utd would be better off spending 40m on Sneijder, or picking up Gourcuff and getting some change from the 40 (or Benzema as well). How would Modric, or Fabregas fit in with Xavi, Iniesta and Mascherano? He’s better off staying at Spurs, where he has the chance to become a hero, play regularly, AND win trophies.
@Mark – the art of writing English properly on any forum/email died a long time ago………….

Too good for the tiny tots. some (mark) can’t handle the truth and resort to abuse / fighting / panic attack / pure hatred / no sleep / reference to the dictionary for minor spelling mistakes as if it would end the 50+ year wait

There’s very little to no chance of modric leaving in the summer. The same can be said for bale. These players are tied to tottenham for at least the next 5 years. That’s about £20m in wages alone not forgetting compensation etc which is what is taken into account with possible transfers.

That means for either modric or bale to leave spurs this summer it would take offers of around £35m each to prize them away and united don’t have that sort of money and Barcelona would prefer and will buy fabregas anyway.

You could even add how modric hasn’t been on top of his game for almost a year now either. I’d be very surprised if fergie was quite as interested as he once was anyway. This whole story is fabricated rubbish basically just regurgitating stories from the last time spurs played united.

Who cares as Trash.United cannot buy Modric or anyone else ,for that matter ,even old red nose admitted it yesterday,no more signings in the January transfer window as the debt is escalating out of control and more money has to be found to pay Rooney,s new wages ,yet the media still write bs ,amazing .
