Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been back in Germany to recharge his batteries after boss Arsene Wenger gave his squad a two-day extended break, according to the Mirror.

It’s been a tiring few weeks for the Gunners squad and with a nightmare run of fixtures just around the corner, the boss decided to give his players a much-needed breather following our 4-1 win over Sunderland.

Ozil has endured a tough couple of weeks which included a disappointing performance against Bayern Munich last week with his crucial penalty miss bringing with it some heavy criticism from fans and pundits. The 25-year-old therefore took the opportunity of a two-day break to head back to Germany to spend time with his friends and family.

Ozil supposedly suffered a dead leg against Bayern last Wednesday and was left out against Sunderland at the weekend as a precaution, but he’s due back at London Colney this morning and should be back in the squad to face Stoke City on Saturday.

Hopefully this two-day rest has done the players some good, particularly Ozil. He’s clearly feeling the effects of not having a winter break and with him also still adjusting to the physical nature of the Premier League, it’s understandable why his performances haven’t quite been up to scratch lately.

With a vital run of fixtures coming up that sees us play Everton, Bayern, Tottenham, Chelsea, Man City and Everton all in succession, it’s important the squad is refreshed and firing on all cylinders so I’m sure the players would have welcomed this break.
