Mourinho Tells Mesut Ozil Via Text He’ll Make ‘Every Effort’ To Sign Him This Summer

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made contact with Mesut Ozil to inform the playmaker he’ll make ‘every effort’ to sign him from Arsenal at the end of the season.

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, does Jose Mourinho want Mesut Ozil this summer?

Mesut-Ozil-Arsenal

There are some interesting reports circulating this afternoon claiming that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made contact with Mesut Ozil to inform the playmaker he’ll make ‘every effort’ to sign him from Arsenal this summer.

Ozil played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and played a key role in the side that lifted the La Liga title in 2011/12 to establish himself as one of the best playmakers in Europe.

The 25-year-old then made a shock £42m move to Arsenal on deadline day back in September and after a promising start to life in north London, he’s recently come under strong criticism following some lackluster display’s.

Ozil headed back to Germany on Sunday to spend some time with his family after being given an extended break by boss Arsene Wenger, but it seems he’s also got an ally a little closer to home with reports in Spain claiming that Jose Mourinho still keeps in touch with the attacker.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Mourinho has been sending Ozil messages of support in recent days advising him to ignore the criticism and telling the player he will make ‘every effort’ to take him to Chelsea this summer.

“Mourinho loves to keep in touch with his former players, sending them messages and this is what has been done with Özil.”

“Mou has told the German to ignore the strong criticism he’s getting for his poor performances at Arsenal and will make every effort to sign him” AS reports.

If this report is accurate, it will not go down too well in north London and will do little to repair the strained relationship that Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho already have. The Chelsea boss was full of praise for Ozil following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season, saying after the game:

“Mesut and the evolution of the other players can transform Arsenal into champions.

“Mesut is a phenomenal player. He’s one of these players that you buy to complete the puzzle of your team. You don’t need time, you need nothing. The player just arrives. You have an empty space waiting for him, you put the player there and you know automatically that your team becomes better.

“He arrived, Arsene gave him the shirt, he immediately started playing and immediately the team became better.

“It’s impossible to stop him for the entire game as these kinds of players always have a moment, or couple of moments, where you cannot stop them and they end up showing why they are so good.” [source: International Business Times]

The Portuguese coach also raised a few eyebrows after running on the pitch at the final whistle to ask for the playmakers No.11 shirt and giving him a prolonged hug.

Surely this is the sort of thing that could have waited until the players were down the tunnel or in the dressing room? But it seems Mourinho wanted to make his affection for Ozil very public and perhaps we now know why; because he wants to tempt him to swap Arsenal for Chelsea this summer.

But will anything come of this? Well, Arsenal are no longer a side that needs to sell their best players every year and now have the finances to compete for the top players. They are also making huge strides on the pitch, currently only sitting one point off Chelsea in second place in the table, so although Mourinho may be keen on taking him to Stamford Bridge, I really don’t see Ozil leaving the Emirates any time soon.
