Alvaro Morata Has Agreed To Join Arsenal And Will Urge Real Madrid To Let Him Leave

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news on Alvaro Morata.

Alvaro Morata has agreed to join Arsenal this summer and will urge Real Madrid to let him seal a switch to north London, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

Speaking on Sky Sports show ‘Revista de La Liga‘ on Tuesday night, Balague claimed that while there is no agreement in place between the two clubs as yet, the 21-year-old striker HAS agreed personal terms with Arsenal over a summer switch to the Emirates and will push Madrid into accepting the Gunners offer, once they put one on the table.

This news obviously spread like wild-fire on Twitter, where some fans had twisted the pundits words to suggest Morata to Arsenal was a ‘done deal’, so Balague took to the social networking site to clarify his stance on the matter, saying:

Morata should be a familiar name with Arsenal fans as he was strongly linked with a loan move to us during the summer and again in January. However, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti refused to let the youngster leave, despite the fact he’s only started one league game all season and is currently behind Karim Benzema and Jesse in the striking pecking order.

If Balague’s information is accurate, then it looks like Morata is keen to leave the Bernabeu in search of more regular first team action, which he should get at Arsenal given our current lack of striking options behind Olivier Giroud.

But is Morata the striker Arsenal fans are hoping we sign this summer? I’m a fan of the player and he has a lot of potential, but he’s still very young and relatively unproven, so personally speaking, I’d prefer we signed a more established name.

Ideally, I’d like to see us sign a world class finisher who would replace Giroud as our first choice front man, with the Frenchman considered No.2 and Joel Campbell or Yaya Sanogo adding further depth in the striking department, but obviously we’ll have to see what Arsene Wenger decides to do this summer.
