Manchester United boss David Moyes had at least SIX players watched last weekend as his European scouting mission continues ahead of a summer of rebuilding at Old Trafford, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite Moyes enduring a disastrous first campaign in charge, it looks as though United chiefs are going to stick by the Scot and back him in the market this summer with a sizeable transfer kitty, and the former Everton man is already scouting a number of key targets.

The Daily Mail claim United had scouts in the stands to watch Edinson Cavani make his comeback from injury on Sunday night, with the Uruguayan coming off the bench to score during a 2-0 win over Marseille following a month out with a thigh injury.

A striker is perhaps viewed as a low priority for Moyes as he already has the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck to call upon, so should the club follow-up with their interest in Cavani you’d expect one of the current quartet to leave this summer.

PSG are unlikely to welcome any interest in Cavani as they only signed him from Napoli last summer, although there have been rumours the 26-year-old is already looking to leave France after being frustrated at having to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

With Nemanja Vidic leaving when his contract expires in June, and Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand possibly set to follow the Serb out the exit door, United are certain to be on the look out for defensive reinforcements this summer and the club had scouts run-the-rule over highly-rated Freiburg centre-back Matthias Ginter on Friday night.

The 20-year-old has recently been called up to the senior Germany squad after an impressive season at the back and could earn his first cap against Chile on Wednesday night. Ginter is tipped for great things in his homeland and the Mail suggest he could be available for just £7.2m this summer.

The newspaper claims that United scouts also watched Porto’s 2-2 draw with Vitoria Guimaraes on Sunday in order to keep an eye on talented left-back Alex Sandro. The 23-year-old is an adventurous defender who loves to get forward and is know for his crossing ability, so could be an excellent replacement for Evra if the Frenchman leaves. United also had Porto’s right-back Danilo watched, but the talent-spotters weren’t able to assess centre-back Eliaquim Mangala as he didn’t feature.

If that wasn’t a busy enough weekend, Moyes was once again present to watch Toni Kroos put in another master-class for Bayern Munich during their 5-1 thrashing of Schalke, while the Scot sent scouts to watch Roma centre-back Mehdi Benatia put in an impressive shift as they drew 0-0 with Inter Milan on Saturday night.

It’s certainly been a disappointing season for United fans but it appears they can at least look forward to an exciting summer in the transfer market as Moyes looks to build a squad capable of getting the club back challenging for top honors.
