Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is hoping to beat rivals Arsenal and Liverpool to the signing of highly-rated Argentinean attacker Juan Manuel Iturbe this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The diminutive forward is owned by Portuguese giants Porto but is currently enjoying a season-long loan spell at Italian outfit Hellas Verona, where the 20-year-old has been a key figure for the team with his five goals and two assists helping the club reach seventh in the Serie A table during their first season back in the top-flight.

It appears his impressive displays have attracted interest fro all over Europe with Everton, Juventus and Roma all understood to be keen on signing the 5ft 6″ attacking midfielder, while Verona also want to take him on loan again next season.

However, with Iturbe’s stock rising, Porto could decide to cash-in this summer and talkSPORT claim that Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all now joined the chase for the players signature.

The Gunners are expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer with Arsene Wenger likely to be armed with a sizeable kitty following the clubs latest positive financial results, and the coffers will be further boosted when the new PUMA kit deal starts this summer.

Liverpool will no doubt also be plotting ambitious plans in the transfer market if the club can push on and secure a top-four finish at least this season, but the report claims that Blues boss Jose Mourinho is hoping to beat his rivals to the signature of Itrube and lure the forward to Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho is known to favour attackers who can also help out in defence and Itrube has a reputation as a hard-working player who likes to get stuck in, so his battling qualities are likely to appeal to the Portuguese coach.

However, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Mohamed Salah, Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Willian already on the books at Stamford Bridge, do the club need another attacking midfielder? Itrube would have to ask himself just how much playing time he’d get if he did make the move to West London, so he may be better off going elsewhere to continue his development.
