Chelsea entertain Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening in this weekends big Premier League clash.
Ahead of the game, boss Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference and gave Chelseafc.com a team news and injury update.
The good news for Chelsea is that Eden Hazard is fit and available for the game. The winger was a doubt after picking up a knock while playing for Belgium in midweek but it appears he’s been able to shake it off and should start against Spurs tomorrow.
However, Mourinho revealed he has some fresh injury concerns to deal with. Ashley Cole played the first half of England’s 1-0 win over Denmark on Wednesday and while Mourinho was pleased the 33-year-old got some minutes under his belt, the left-back has now picked up an injury in training on Thursday and will be out for up to 10 days.
The Portuguese coach also confirmed that defender David Luiz is a doubt to face Spurs after suffering an injury during Brazil’s 5-0 win over South Africa in midweek. Mourinho told the clubs website:
‘Hazard is good, we have some other problems, we don’t know if they can recover, but Hazard looks good, no problem,’
‘It was good for me that Ashley played part of the game [for England], he hasn’t played for a long time. He didn’t play 90 minutes but he played 45 and that’s good. Unfortunately he got an injury in training yesterday and he’s one of the players that is out for tomorrow.
‘It’s a lateral ligament injury, impossible for him to play tomorrow and we would say between eight and 10 days.
‘We always want to respect the desire and pride of the players to play with their national teams, so many times they go to the national team and come with problems, David Luiz is one of those examples.
‘He was injured with us, he missed some important matches, for example he wasn’t ready for the Galatasaray game. He goes to the national team and comes back injured, but that’s our profile of player and our profile of club.’
If Luiz joins Cole in missing the game tomorrow, then Gary Cahill is certain to continue his partnership alongside John Terry at the back while Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta will fill the full-back roles.
Chelsea head into the weekend action sitting four points clear at the top of the table and with none of Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City playing a league game this weekend, the west Londoners have the opportunity to open up a seven point advantage.
