Mesut-Ozil-Arsenal

Arsenal are through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup after easing past Everton 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Here, Gooner Mac gives us his player ratings from the game.

Everton are never an easy side but we did enough to get through thanks largely to the impact of Olivier Giroud and the form of Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Santi Cazorla.

Ozil made it 1-0 early on before Lukaku levelled things up for Everton before the break. The impressive Oxlade-Chamberlain then won a penalty which was converted by Arteta at the second time of asking before Giroud came off the bench to grab a late brace.

Arsenal ratings:

Fabianski 7/10

Did little wrong in goal and commanded his box well. Not his busiest day between the sticks and was helpless for the visitors goal.

Gibbs 6.5/10

Always eager to get forward but it backfired when Barkley was able to surge into his area of the pitch and set up the equaliser.

Mertesacker 7/10

Another assured display by the big German. Won his aerial battle with Lukaku and made some important tackles.

Vermaelen 7/10

Slotted straight back into the side and didn’t let us down. He did get away with one mistake in the second half, but otherwise was very impressive and showed he can be relied upon when needed.

Sagna 7/10

The Frenchman got forward a lot, especially in the first half, but his delivery wasn’t always on point. However, he provided an excellent assist for Olivier Giroud’s first goal to make it 3-1.

Flamini 6/10

Reckless tackle earned him an early booking which limited his impact as he had to tread a fine line for much of the game. This explains why he didn’t put his foot in to stop Barkley’s cross that led to their goal. Still worked hard, but just didn’t have the impact he usually does in the middle of the park.

Arteta 7/10

Was played further up the pitch at times which exposed Flamini, particularly as he was on a yellow card, but the Spaniard showed a cool head to score the re-taken penalty. His passing was also very good today.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 7.5/10

The youngster put in an encouraging all-round display. While he was sloppy in possession at times, he made up for it by showing the determination to chase back and put a tackle in. Also went close to scoring a couple of times and a good piece of skill won the vital spot kick.

Cazorla 8/10

An excellent performance from the little Spaniard. Set the tone with a lovely assist for the opener and went on to have a fine game. Linked up well with Ozil and was always keen to get things moving.

Ozil 9/10

Superb. Proved to critics wrong with a MOTM display that showed why he’s world class. Not only did he open the scoring with a cool finish and set up Giroud with a great pass, but he also put a shift in defensively and tracked back to help out the team. Great to see and hopefully he’s now fully-refreshed and we’ll be seeing this type of performance more often.

Sanogo 5.5/10

I don’t want to be too harsh on the young lad but he was disappointing today. His ball retention was very poor and he offered little up front.

Subs:

Giroud 8/10 – Important introduction as we finally had a focal point in attack and he sealed the game with a late brace.

Rosicky 7/10 – Played two lovely passes which led to goals.

Jenkinson N/A – On too late.
