The Daily Mail are reporting this afternoon that Mesut Ozil’s scan results are in and it’s not looking good Gooners as it seems the injury is worse than first thought.

Ozil was forced off at half time during our 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night after picking up a hamstring injury, which the newspaper claims was suffered inside the opening 10 minutes of the game and was then aggravated when he decided to play on with the knock.

Arsene Wenger confirmed after the game that the playmaker had been assessed by German doctor Hans Muller Wohlfahrt with the injury looking ‘quite bad’ and the initial feeling was he’d be out for a ‘few weeks’.

Many took this to meant that the German international would miss around three weeks. However, the Mail are claiming this afternoon that following scans and further medical assessments at the clubs training ground on Wednesday, the 25-year-old has been diagnosed with a grade two hamstring strain that will see him out for between 4-6 weeks.

If proved accurate, it means Ozil will now miss our upcoming games against Tottenham, Chelsea, Swansea City, Manchester City and Everton, while he’ll also be in a race to be fit in time to take on Wigan Athletic in the semi-final of the FA Cup on April 12th and our subsequent league game with Hull.

It’s obviously a huge blow and it seems we’ve been hit by a spate of injuries at just the wrong time of the season yet again. Jack Wilshere was ruled out for at least six weeks last week and now we’ve lost another influential attacker in Ozil for the majority of the remainder of the season.

Our ever growing injury list now includes Wilshere, Ozil, Walcott, Ramsey, Kallstrom, Sanogo, Bendtner, Diaby, Gibbs and Monreal. Most of them are considered as minor knocks and many players could be back as soon as this weekend, but Walcott, Wilshere and Ozil are all long-term and they’ll be sorely missed during a pivotal period of the season.

Hopefully we’ll be able to get by and our campaign won’t be derailed by injuries, which have plagued the club for well over five years now.
