Manchester United boss David Moyes has offered a positive injury update on striker Robin van Persie after he was stretchered off last night against Olympiakos.

Manchester United boss David Moyes is confident striker Robin van Persie hasn’t picked up any serious injury after being forced off during the closing stages of Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over Olympiakos at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman was central to United’s fortunes last night as he hit a hat-trick to help turn around a two-goal deficit to see the Red Devils through to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

However, his evening ended in agony as he was stretchered from the field in the 90th minute after appearing to take a knock to his knee from Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas.

Understandably, United fans were fearing their talisman could be set for a spell on the sidelines, but Moyes has told ManUtd.com that he doesn’t think the injury is anything too serious and they’ll assess the 30-year-old’s fitness on Thursday.

“I don’t think Robin’s too bad,” he said. “He’s got a knock just behind his knee. We’ll know more in the morning – we’ll assess it – but he had a knock in the back of his knee. We hope it’s not too bad.” Moyes told ManUtd.com

Last night’s result has brought some of the feel-good factor back to Old Trafford after a season filled with disappointment, so it would be a huge blow if van Persie was to be sidelined for any length of time.

The former Arsenal hitman has already seen his season disrupted by a series of niggling injuries so hopefully Moyes is right and the player will be back on the pitch soon as United are certainly going to need him if their to go any further in the Champions League or make a late push for a top-four place in the Premiership.
