Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost with the Daily Mail reporting that Jack Wilshere’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

The 22-year-old suffered a hairline fracture on his navicular bone in his left foot following a challenge by Daniel Agger during England’s friendly win over Denmark on March 5th.

Arsene Wenger said when you take into consideration he’d need at least two weeks full training before he’d be in contention for a return to the first team, it would take eight week before the midfielder would be back playing again. This time frame ruled Wilshere out until the start of May which meant he was only likely to return for a couple of games at the very end of our season.

However, after returning from a week-long break in Dubai, the Mail claim Wilshere has undergone new checks by Arsenal’s medical staff where it was found that the injury isn’t as bad as initially though, and Jack is now aiming to return to action in mid-April.

The newspaper suggests that Wilshere has been wearing a protective boot in public but it’s understood he’s been able to walk around the training ground freely as he steps up his rehabilitation from this latest injury set-back.

Obviously it will be a huge boost if we can get Wilshere back earlier than expected and if the Mail’s report proves accurate, then he even has an outside chance of making the FA Cup semi final against Wigan on April 12th.

I’m sure Arsene will be cautious not to bring him back to early, as Wilshere has a tendency to break down and suffer set-backs, but this positive updates suggests he’ll be back in time to at least play a meaningful part of our run in.
