Arsenal Chiefs Eyeing Martinez Or Klopp As Eventual Replacement For Wenger

Arsene Wenger is expected to sign a new deal at Arsenal but the club are already starting to make plans for when the Frenchman does eventually leave with Roberto Martinez and Jurgen Klopp heading the list of candidates, according to the Telegraph.

Arsene’s future has come under even more scrutiny following our 6-0 thrashing by Chelsea at the weekend with a growing number of fans feeling it’s time he now steps down when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

However, the report claims the boss has already agreed in principle to extend his stay at the Emirates by at least another two years, but will wait until the end of the season before making a final decision on signing the extension.

Wenger is only going to stay if he feels he is taking the team forward and failure to win the FA Cup and finish in the top four could see him end his 18-year reign in north London. We are rightfully the odds-on favourites to lift the FA Cup and are still on course to finish in the top four, at least, this season so the likelihood is Arsene will commit to another contract.

But it’s going to be short-term and the Telegraph claim Arsenal chiefs have already starting making plans for when the 64-year-old leaves with Everton manager Roberto Martíínez and Borussia Dortmund’s Jürgen Klopp the leading candidates.

I think it’s safe to say Klopp would be many fans first choice as the next manager of Arsenal but we won’t be the only club interested in his services if he does decide to leave Dortmund. Likewise with Martinez, he’s growing a reputation as one of the most exciting young managers in Europe and we could face stiff competition if we decide he’s the man to replace Wenger when the time comes.

It looks like the boss will be staying on for at least another two years and I think he’s earned the right to have a real go at winning the league next season. He’s taken us through the hard times while we built the new stadium so it’s only fair he now gets to reap the rewards and spend the money we’ve now got in the bank.

But I only want him to stay IF he’s going to spend the money he has available and bring in the quality of players we clearly need to compete with the best. If we’re going to endure another frustrating summer of inactivity like last year (Ozil aside), then I think I’m not the only one who feels it’s time to say goodbye and bring in a young manager with fresh ideas.
