Man Utd Set For Double Injury Boost Ahead Of Bayern Munich Clash

Manchester United are set to be handed a timely double injury boost ahead of their clash with Bayern Munich with Rooney and Evra both expected to be passed fit

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United - Premier League

Manchester United are set to be handed a timely double injury boost ahead of Wednesday’s second leg against Bayern Munich with Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra both expected to be passed fit to play.

Rooney missed Saturday’s comfortable 4-0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park after picking up a toe injury in last weeks Champions League first leg draw with Bayern Munich.

Boss David Moyes described the injury as ‘nasty’ at his press conference on Friday but the Scot confirmed over the weekend that the striker has been doing work in the swimming pool and gym as he desperately tries to get himself fit.

‘We have worked him hard on the bike and in the swimming pool, Friday and today (Saturday) and we will give him every opportunity to be fit.’ Moyes is quoted as saying by the Mail

However, the Daily Mail are reporting that the 28-year-old is winning his fitness fight and is expected to make the trip to Germany tomorrow in preparation for Wednesday’s second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Rooney is also expected to be joined by defender Patrice Evra after the Frenchman told ManUtd.com he believes he’ll be passed fit to play despite being forced off just after half-time during the win over Newcastle at the weekend.

The experienced left-back has revealed in an interview with the clubs official website that he’s been struggling with a knee problem since before last weeks win over Aston Villa but is confident he’ll be okay to face the reigning European champions.

“I think I will be fit. I received a knock and I was injured as well before Aston Villa with my knee so I will try my best to be fit.”

Sometimes you have to play your best and be honest with yourself and your team-mates. If you are ready to play, you have to give everything. No excuses. If you play a bad game, you can’t say it was because you were injured.”

Obviously it will come as a major boost to United if both Rooney and Evra are available. With Robin van Persie injured and Juan Mata ineligible, Moyes will be keen to get Rooney back on the pitch for what’s going to be an extremely difficult night against a formidable Bayern side. They know they’ll need to score at least once in order to have a chance of qualifying for the semi finals and their chances of doing so will be far greater with Rooney in the side.

Evra’s absence would be less of a concern as Alex Buttner performed well in the first leg when the Frenchman was suspended, but I’m sure Moyes will still be hopeful the defender is available as his experience could prove vital over in Germany.

Do you think United can get a result on Wednesday? Or will Bayern be too strong?
