Arsenal are set to table a take-it-or-leave-it £12m bid for on-loan Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy, according to reports today.

Remy joined QPR in January 2013 but not even his 6 goals in 14 games could keep Harry Redknapp’s men in the Premier League as the West Londoners were relegated to the Championship last season.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a year-long loan at Newcastle United this campaign where he’s scored an impressive 13 goals in 25 appearances, proving once-again that he can be a real threat here in the Premier League.

The Magpies will no doubt be keen to keep him at St James’ Park on a more permanent basis but it seems Arsenal are ready to make their move for the striker with the Metro reporting that Arsene Wenger will table a £12m bid at the end of the season.

The newspaper claims that Wenger will make the offer before the World Cup and hopes his take-it-or-leave-it bid will be enough to persuade QPR to cash-in on the French international. Whether it will be enough to tempt the debt-ridden club in to a sale remains to be seen, as there are likely to be a number of other clubs vying for Remy’s signature and QPR will want to try and create a bidding war.

There is little doubt Arsenal need to be in the market for at least one striker this summer with the club heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud this season. Yaya Sanogo is still very raw and Nicklas Bendtner is set to leave when his contract expires in June, so arguably we need to bring in two front-men this summer.

Remy would bring some much-needed pace to our attack and he’s proven he can cut it in the Premier League, so I think he’d be an astute purchase if we could snap him up around £12m. However, I also think it’s important we try and bring in another marquee name as well to really ensure we have a variety of options up front next season.

Our lack of depth in attack has cost us dear this season as we struggled to cope when three of our main creators and goal threats were out injured – namely Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey – while Giroud’s performance levels have dropped off during the second half of the campaign due to fatigue.
