Italian Striker Heading To North London In €20m Move?

Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to go head-to-head over the signing of Lorenzo Insigne this summer and are planning to tempt Napoli’s resolve with a €20m offer

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Tottenham are linked with Lorenzo Insigne.

Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to go head-to-head over the signing of Lorenzo Insigne this summer and are planning to tempt Napoli’s resolve with a €20m offer, according to reports in Italy.

Insigne grew up in Naples and joined the club as a teenager before making his way to the first team via the youth team set-up, and is now regarded as an important member of the first team.

The 22-year-old scored twice to help lift the Coppa Italia win a 3-1 win over Fiorentina last week, but it was a rare high note in what’s been a relatively disappointing season for the diminutive forward.

He’s drawn criticism from some sections of the Napoli faithful after some poor form in recent months, with the 22-year-old struggling to adapt to Rafa Benitez’s new system. While the Italian international is capable of playing anywhere across the front line, his favoured position is just behind the striker, and he’s been forced to play as an out-and-out winger for the majority of this season, which has affected his form.

It seems Arsenal and Tottenham have been alerted to his situation with Italian outlet TuttoSport claiming that the North London duo are ready to test Napoli’s resolve with €20m offers at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to persuade the Serie A outfit to cash-in, but it would be interesting to see how Insigne would do if he did come to the Premier League this summer. He’s been dubbed as the ‘Italian Messi’ due to his tiny frame – standing at just 5ft 4 inches – so some have questioned whether he’d be able to cope with the physical nature of  English football.

However, Insigne is certainly a huge talent and he’d be an exciting addition if either Arsenal or Tottenham were able to lure him from Italy, but they may want to try and get a deal done quickly as a good showing at the World Cup will only increase the interest in his signature.
