Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants Mario Mandzukic to follow Diego Costa to Chelsea and is willing to use David Luiz as bait to land the Bayern Munich striker, according to reports today.

The Portuguese coach has made no secret of his desire to add to his strike-force after complaining of his ‘lack of real strikers’ on several occasions last season, despite the fact Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres are all on the books at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are expected to complete the signing of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid after next weekends Champions League final but it’s understood the spending wont stop there as Mourinho wants to bring in two top class forwards this summer.

The Mirror claim that next on his hit-list is Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic and the west Londoners are prepared to sacrifice David Luiz in order to land the 27-year-old on the cheap.

Bayern Munich have been strongly linked with Luiz and reports in recent days have suggested that the German giants are confident they can beat Barcelona to a £30m deal for the Brazilian defender.

However, it appears Mourinho is ready to take advantage of Bayern’s interest with the newspaper suggesting that he’s demanding the Bundesliga giants pay around £15m and include Mandzukic in any deal for Luiz.

Mandzukic is expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer as he’s set to fall further down Guardiola’s pecking order when Robert Lewandowski arrives from Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea have been tracking the Croatian international all season and the Mirror suggest they will offer him a five-year contract worth around £6m per season if he agrees to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Many feel Mandzukic doesn’t fit in to Guardiola’s system at Bayern but he still managed an impressive 26 goals in 48 games last season after scoring 22 in 40 games during his first year at the club following his move from Wolfsburg in 2012, so he’s certainly an established goal-scorer at the highest level.

It would be a shrewd piece of business if the Blues can pull it off as not only will they sell a player who has been deemed as surplus to requirements, but they will get a proven goal-scorer in exchange AND actually make a £15m profit on the deal.
