20 Goals + 9 Assists: Arsenal And Liverpool Set To Move For €31m Attacker

Arsenal and Liverpool will battle it out over the signing of €31m-rated attacker Pedro after Barcelona made the Spaniard available for transfer this summer

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Pedro.

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to battle it out over the signing of €31m-rated attacker Pedro after Barcelona made the Spaniard available for transfer this summer, according to reports today.

Pedro has been with Barcelona since joining the club as a 17-year-old in 2004 and impressed for the ‘B’ team before eventually making his first team debut in 2008. His breakthrough season came in the 2009/10 campaign when he scored 23 goals in 52 appearances and the youngster was expected to push on and become an integral part of the Catalans set-up.

However, while he’s still been used regularly over the past four seasons, Pedro never really been able to establish himself as a vital first team player. A perfect example of this was last season when the 26-year-old made over 50 appearances but only 38 of them were from the start and even when he was in first eleven, he was subbed off on 24 occasions and was rarely selected for the key matches.

Despite his bit-part role, Pedro still managed to score an impressive 20 goals and provide 9 assists last season, but it seems that’s not been enough to convince the Barca board as reports suggest the Spanish attacker has now been made available for transfer as the deposed La Liga champions look set to overhaul their squad this summer.

With his future at the Nou Camp now in doubt, it looks like he could be heading to the Premier League with he Daily Star claiming that Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on offering him a fresh start in England and are weighing-up moves for the €31m-rated ace.

That kind of money, which works out at around £25m, would be a relative bargain in today’s market for a player of Pedro’s quality and experience. He’s coming to the prime of his career and is capable of playing anywhere across the front-line, so his versatility is likely to appeal to prospective buyers.

Arsene Wenger is expected to be in the market for striking reinforcements this summer and Pedro would be able to not only provide something different to Olivier Giroud if deployed through the middle, he’d also be able to fill in on the wings if needed.

Brendan Rodgers is also going to be active this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League next year and there’s no doubt a player like Pedro would be a major coup for the Merseysiders if they could manage to pull it off.

Pedro is currently training with the Spain squad ahead of this summers World Cup finals and is expected to be named in Vincente del Bosque’s final 23, so any potential move will most likely have to wait until after the tournament is over, but he’d certainly be worth the wait.
