Arsenal officials are working on a €25m deal to bring Mario Balotelli to the Emirates after Arsene Wenger made the AC Milan ace his first choice striker target for this summer, according to reports today.

It’s pretty clear that we need to bring in at least one striker this summer to add some depth to our adding options and although several names have been touted as potential signings, the Daily Mail claim the boss has now made Balotelli his No.1 target.

The 23-year-old is expected to leave the San Siro this summer after being subject to racist abuse in Italy last season and it appears he could in fact be set for a sensational return to the Premier League.

The report claims that AC Milan have already offered him to a number of top European clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool, but we are understood to have shown the most serious interest and Balotelli is said to be keen on moving to London.

The newspaper suggests that sources close to Arsenal have confirmed our interest and officials are now working hard on trying to finalise a deal that will be worth €25m (£20m). Balotelli is something of an enigma and trouble seems to follow him wherever he goes, but there’s no denying his talent and I think he’d be an excellent signing if we could pull this off.

Arsene is known for his man-management skills so perhaps he can be the manager to finally tame the controversial hitman and allow him to fulfill his immense potential. If we could get the best out of him, he’s got everything needed to become one of the best strikers in Europe, so I think it’s worth the risk at £20m.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail are also claiming that Lukas Podolski could be set to leave Arsenal this summer and Wenger is looking to replace him with Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy.

The France international has been strongly linked in recent weeks but I, like many Gunners fans, have had reservations about him being our main striker signing this summer. However, if this report is accurate and he’ll come in along with Balotelli, he’d be a useful addition.

With 14 goals in 26 games for Newcastle last season, Remy proved he can do the business in the Premier League and with a supposed £10m buy-out clause in his contract, he’d be a relative bargain in today’s market. The 27-year-old is also capable of playing out wide or through the middle so he’d give us plenty of options in attack next season, and £30m for Remy and Balotelli would represent a tremendous piece of business.
