Chelsea To Seal £60m Double Deal This Week Despite Arsenal Delaying Fabregas Move

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident he has secured a £60m double swoop for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa and hopes to tie the deals up before Friday night

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are ready to complete a £60m double swoop.

Diego-Costa-Atletico Madrid

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident he has secured a £60m double swoop for Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa and hopes to tie the deals up before Spain’s World Cup opener on Friday night, according to reports today.

Fabregas’s future has been at the center of much debate in recent weeks after it emerged he was no longer part of new boss Luis Enrique’s plans and he would be allowed to leave this summer following three years at the Nou Camp.

Arsenal surprisingly passed up the opportunity to trigger a buy-back clause they inserted into the players contract when he was sold back in 2011, which left Chelsea clear to establish themselves as the favourites to sign Fabregas with the midfielder supposedly keen on returning to London.

Reports suggest that a £28m deal is being held up by another clause the Gunners insisted on, which states they are due 50% of any profit made above £26m. However, the Daily Mail claim Jose Mourinho is confident the deal is all-but complete and the 27-year-old will become a Chelsea player by the end of the week.

With Frank Lampard on his way out of the club, Mourinho needs to bring in a goal-scoring midfielder and Fabregas would be a superb addition, particularly at £28m which is a relative bargain in today’s market for a player of his quality. He’s one of the most creative players in Europe and would add a whole new dimension to the Blues attack if he does end up making the move to west London.

And the former Gunner is expected to be joined at Stamford Bridge by Spanish team-mate Diego Costa with the Daily Mail claiming a £32m deal with Atletico Madrid has already been completed and personal terms with the striker have been agreed.

The 25-year-old confirmed on Saturday night that it looks like he’ll be a Chelsea player, saying after Spain’s win over El Salvador:

‘Am I going to Chelsea? It looks like it.’ Costa is quoted as saying by the Mail.

A world class striker was a top priority for Mourinho this summer after he bemoaned his lack of ‘real strikers’ on several occasions last season and there aren’t many better out there than Costa right now.

The Brazilian-born hitman has just enjoyed a sensational season with Atletico that saw him score 36 goals in 52 games to help Diego Simeone’s side to the La Liga title before narrowly missing out on a historic double after losing to Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League.

Chelsea fans will be hoping that Fabregas and Costa will be the missing parts of Mourinho’s jigsaw and they will have the squad capable of going all the way in the title race next season after coming up short last campaign.
