Liverpool Target Set For Spurs Talks As Londoners Hope To Seal €19m Deal
Liverpool target Dejan Lovren is set to hold talks with Tottenham over a potential £15m to White Hart Lane from Southampton, according to reports today.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Tottenham are linked with Liverpool target Dejan Lovren.
Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a €19m bid for Dejan Lovren with new boss Mauricio Pochettino hoping it will be enough to land the Southampton defender ahead of Liverpool, according to reports today.
Lovren was signed by Pochettino last summer when he took the centre-back to St Mary’s from French outfit Lyon and he enjoyed an excellent debut season in the Premier League after helping the Saints to an eight-placed finish.
His impressive form has led to strong interest from Liverpool with Brendan Rodgers understood to have made the Croatian defender one of his key transfer targets, and there have been reports suggesting the Merseysiders have already had a £12m turned down which prompted the player to hand in a formal transfer request.
With no deal in place, Lovren headed off to the World Cup and it looks like Liverpool’s failure to agree a fee with Southampton could cost them as the Metro claim that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is set to raid his former club with a €19m (£15m) bid.
It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to persuade the Saints to cash-in, but the newspaper suggests that Spurs are hopeful and are now due to meet with Lovren’s agent early next week to discuss a personal terms over a switch to North London.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Liverpool respond to Tottenham’s interest and you’d expect they will up their opening offer if Rodgers really does want to take him to Anfield.
While Lovren may enjoy a positive relationship with Pochettino, you’d think the fact Liverpool can offer Champions League football would make them favourites, as playing in Europe’s elite competition was cited as a main reason he put in a transfer request, so my money would still be on the Croatian international ending up at Anfield this summer.
