Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Adam Lallana with the attacker travelling up to Melwood for a medical ahead of a £25m switch from Southampton, according to widespread reports this afternoon.

The Merseysiders were strongly linked with Lallana earlier in the summer but appeared to cool their interest after seeing two bids rejected by the Saints before the World Cup.

With boss Brendan Rodgers on the look out for attacking reinforcements this summer, several other names have been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks.

However, it appears the Northern Irishman has resurrected his interest in the 26-year-old England international with the Telegraph one of several media outlets who are reporting this afternoon that Lallana is now en route to Liverpool’s Melwood training ground to undergo a medical.

The newspaper claims that while Southampton were holding out for nearer £30m, the fee will be £25m and the move could even be officially completed later on Friday night.

If, as expected, Lallana completes the switch to Anfield he will end his 14-year association with Southampton and become the third major name to leave St Mary’s this summer, following Rickie Lambert to Liverpool while Luke Shaw is joining Manchester United.

Lallana has just come off the back of his best season as a professional, with his 9 goals helping the Saints to an impressive eight-placed finish in the Premier League last year, and his impressive displays earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Season.

He was also selected in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man England squad for this summers World Cup final, and although it ended up being a disappointing tournament over in Brazil, he’s quickly turned things around by securing a big-money move to Liverpool where he’ll be playing Champions League football next season.
