Barcelona have agreed a €90m fee with Liverpool for the purchase of controversial striker Luis Suarez and the deal could be concluded within the next 48 hours, according to reports in Spain.

The Catalans stepped up their pursuit of Suarez this week after flying over to London for formal talks with Liverpool chief Ian Ayre on Wednesday and it was widely reported that initial negotiations were productive.

Talks have continued since and Spanish outlet Cadena Ser are now reporting that a €90m (£72m) agreement has been reached between the two clubs, while the Daily Mail claim that the deal could be concluded within the next 48 hours.

Nothing official has come out of either club yet, but Sky Sports News have also just reported that according to their sources, a deal taking Suarez to the Nou Camp could be sealed by the end of the weekend, so it certainly seems as though things are drawing to a conclusion.

The purchase of Suarez will likely see Alexis Sanchez leave Barcelona but it remains to be seem where he’ll end up. Liverpool are keen to have him included in any deal for Suarez but with Arsenal also heavily involved, it looks like any deal for the Chilean will be separate.

The Uruguayan FA submitted their official appeal to FIFA on Thursday evening against Suarez’s four month and 9-game international ban, but it looks like it’s now going to be Barcelona’s problem to deal with as he edges ever closer to sealing his move to Spain.

FIFA have already confirmed that his four month ban won’t prevent him from undergoing a medical, which paves the way for the 27-year-old to finalise his move away from Anfield.

While it will be a huge blow to the Merseysiders to lose their talisman, the silver lining is Brendan Rodgers will have a sizeable transfer kitty to replace the striker and have plenty left over to strengthen other areas of his squad.

Rodgers has already been busy in the transfer market and sealed his third signing of the summer yesterday with the purchase of German midfielder Emre Can, who follows Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana to Anfield this summer.
