Angel Di Maria Real Madrid

Manchester United have been told by Real Madrid they must up their offer to a whopping €70m if they want to stand a chance of signing Angel Di Maria this summer, according to reports today.

Despite not officially being in the job yet, new United boss Louis van Gaal has wasted no time in starting his rebuilding project at Old Trafford and he’s expected to continue to splash the cash after signing Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw last month.

The club have been linked with a whole host of big-money names in recent weeks and the latest to be touted as a key target is Di Maria. Reports have suggested the Argentinean attacker isn’t entirely content at the Bernabeu and could be sacrificed by Carlo Ancelotti to help fund a move for World Cup super-star James Rodriguez.

It appears Di Maria’s availability has alerted United with the Express claiming van Gaal is keen to lure the 26-year-old to Manchester with the Dutchman understood to prepared to spend up to €59m (£47m) to land the exciting attacker this summer.

However, with Paris Saint-Germain also showing an interest after Di Maria’s impressive displays at the World Cup over the past three weeks, the newspaper suggests that Madrid have told United they will need to pay a mammoth €70m (£56m) to persuade them to cash in.

It remains to be seen whether United will be willing to go that high for the Argentinean international or turn to other targets, but the Red Devils would be getting one of the best attackers in Europe if they do end up signing Di Maria.

Despite those impressive figures, he still drew criticism at times from local media and fans for some inconsistent performances and it looks like Madrid will be prepared to do business to help them land Rodriguez, but only if a club matches their huge €70m price tag.

I personally don’t see van Gaal or the United chiefs sanctioning such a move, but you never know. They paid £30m for a teenage left-back who’s only made 60 appearances in the Premier League and has 3 England caps to his name….
