Arsenal Make Enquiries For £39m German Duo + Wenger Prepares To Seal Double Deal

Arsenal have made enquiries for Sami Khedira and Lars Bender this week as Arsene Wenger prepares to complete deals for Mathieu Debuchy and Javi Manquillo.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of a double enquiry from Arsenal.

Lars Bender

Arsenal have made enquiries for German midfielders Sami Khedira and Lars Bender this week as Arsene Wenger also prepares to complete deals for Mathieu Debuchy and Javi Manquillo, according to the Telegraph.

It’s been an excited couple of days to be an Arsenal fan with the club completing the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona shortly before unveilling our new kits for the upcoming season.

While Sanchez certainly fills a void in the squad by adding pace and power to our attack there are several other areas that also need strengthening, and it looks as though the boss is set to address these problems over the coming weeks.

The next priority is a replacement for Bacary Sagna and as has been widely reported this past week, Mathieu Debuchy is set to join from Newcastle in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £10m and it’s understood the move could be officially confirmed this weekend.

A transfer that has come out of left-field somewhat is the addition of young Spanish defender Javi Manquillo and reports suggest the 20-year-old is set to join on an initial loan from Atletico Madrid with the option to make the move permanent next summer.

Manquillo is also predominantly a right-back so his arrival could see Carl Jenkinson head out on a season-long loan, with Newcastle understood to be showing a keen interest.

So with two more signings on the horizon, the Telegraph are claiming that the spending isn’t going to relent any time soon as Wenger has his eye on bringing in a top class central midfielder and has made enquiries for both Khedira and Bender over the past week.

Khedira has been superb for Germany at the World Cup but with just one year remaining on his contract at Real Madrid and no extension agreed as yet, speculation has suggested he could be on the move this summer.

The potential fee the 27-year-old would command varies depending on which newspaper you read but the Telegraph believe it’s likely to take an offer of around £20m to persuade Madrid to cash in, and that sort of money sounds like an excellent deal for a player of Khedira’s quality.

He’s not exactly a defensive midfielder as he does like to roam forward, but he’d still be a superb foil for the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, and I’m sure his close friendship with our German trio could convince him to opt for a move to the Emirates over any other club that may be interested if he is on the market.

Not one to put all his eggs in one basket, the report claims that Wenger has also re-opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen for Lars Bender after seeing a £19m bid rejected last summer. The 25-year-old was expected to go to the World Cup with Germany before a thigh injury forced him to withdraw, but he too would be an excellent addition if we could get a deal agreed with Leverkusen.

It’s certainly an exciting time to be an Arsenal fan and it looks as though we’re going to be spending some serious money this summer, and if the boss can continue bringing in his key target then I’m in no doubt we’ll have a squad capable of competing for the title next season.
