Liverpool have seen their opening £8m bid for Tottenham target Ben Davies rejected after Swansea told them it will take a bid nearer £12m to persuade them to sell this summer, according to reports.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is on the look-out for another left-back this summer to offer competition to youngster Jon Flanagan and 28-year-old Jose Enrique – who suffered a serious knee injury last season.

The Northern Irishman has been forced to ditch plans to try and sign number one target Alberto Moreno from Sevilla as the Europa League winners are demanding £18m for the Spanish international.

This has led the Merseysiders to look at alternative targets and it seems they have now turned their attention to Davies with the Daily Mail claiming today that Swansea City have rejected Liverpool’s opening £8m bid for the 21-year-old full-back.

The newspaper suggests that the Swans are holding out for a fee nearer £12m, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be willing to stretch that far for the Welsh international.

Tottenham have also been strongly linked with a move for Davies this summer but have seemingly cooled their interest after learning of Swansea valuation, and Liverpool may follow suit if they feel the deal doesn’t represent good value.

Davies has spent his entire career at the Liberty Stadium and has made over 80 appearances for the first team after coming through the clubs youth system to make his debut in 2012 following an injury to Neil Taylor.

The youngster played a key role in helping Swansea win the League Cup in 2013 and made several appearances in the Europa League last season, while he also has 10 international caps to his name, so he does have plenty of experience for one so young.

However, we’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool are prepared to increase their offer or move on to other targets, and it will also be interesting to see if Tottenham formalise their interest at any point this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to reshape his squad ahead of his first season in charge at White Hart Lane.
