Brendan Rodgers looks set to continue his summer spending spree with Liverpool closing in on a £28.5m double swoop for Dejan Lovren and Loic Remy, according to reports today.

The Merseysiders have already splashed out close to £60m on Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic this summer but the spending doesn’t look like relenting any time soon as Rodgers is set to take the clubs outlay close to £90m with two more additions.

First on the agenda is another striker to add more depth following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and widespread reports claim that the club have now agreed to pay the £8.5m needed to trigger the buy-out clause in Loic Remy’s Queens Park Rangers contract.

The Mirror claim personal terms have now also been agreed with the 27-year-old set to sign a deal worth £80,000-a-week and will make the move to Anfield early next week.

Remy enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Newcastle last year where he scored 14 goals in just 26 appearances, and although he won’t be regarded as a direct replacement for Suarez, he’ll certainly add more threat to the Liverpool attack next season and will provide Rodgers with plenty of options as can also play in a variety of positions.

The Mirror also claim that the Reds are closing in on a £20m deal to sign Southampton defender Dejan Lovren. The Merseysdiers have been strongly linked with the Croatian international this summer but initially found it difficult to persuade the South Coast club to cash in.

However, the newspaper suggests that the Saints are now resigned to losing the 25-year-old and new boss Ronald Koeman has already identified Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar as a potential replacement.

Koeman confirmed his interest in the Dutch ace, saying:

“Yes, Ron is a serious option – but he’s an expensive one.” Koeman is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

Lovren has just come off the back of an excellent debut season in England following his move from Lyon last summer and played a key role in helping Southampton to an eight-place finish last year.

If he does complete a move to Anfield, he’s likely to replace Daniel Agger – who has been tipped for a move this summer – and the Croatian will compete with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho for a place in Rodgers starting eleven.
