Colombian Attacker Set To Fly To London Ahead Of €20m Arsenal Move

Reports this evening claim that Porto’s Colombain international attacker Juan Fernando Quintero is set to travel to London ahead of a €20m move to Arsenal.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Juan Fernando Quintero.

Arsenal could be set to complete their fifth signing of the summer with reports this evening claiming that Porto attacker Juan Fernando Quintero is set to travel to London ahead of a €20m move to the Emirates.

News first emerged of possible interest from Arsenal earlier this week when speculation circulated that we had agreed a €20m (£15.8m) fee with Porto for the 21-year-old play-maker.

Most fans shrugged it off as nothing more than idle paper talk, however, the Metro are now citing reports coming out of Portugal that claim a deal really has been agreed and the player is now due to travel to London this weekend to complete the transfer.

The report appears to have originated from a journalist named Diego Rueda – who the Metro claim is well respected – and he suggests that Quintero trained for the last time with Porto on Thursday and said his goodbyes, and will now head over to the UK over the coming days to complete a €20m move.

It’s difficult to know how much to read into these reports as there is so much speculation around these days, but we’ll have to take them at face value until more information comes out. The Daily Star are also running a similar story and they claim the deal could be announced on Friday, so there certainly appears to be something in this.

Assuming these reports are accurate and Quintero is joining Arsenal, then he’d be another extremely exciting purchase. The youngster is predominately a play-maker who plays in an advanced midfield role but he’s also capable of playing on the left wing and is known for his pace and skill.

He’s just come off the back of an impressive season for Porto which earned him a place in the Colombian World Cup squad, and he came off the bench to score the winner against Ivory Coast in the group stages.

However, while Quintero would be a useful addition to the squad, I have a feeling his arrival is likely to see someone leave, and I just hope it’s not Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard has been strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer and with Quintero able to play in the same role, his signing would indicate that Santi could be heading back home.

We’ll have to see how things pan out over the next couple of days but as excited as I’d be about Quintero’s signature, I’d be more gutted to see Cazorla leave the club this summer.
