Liverpool are set to take their spending past the £100m mark after finally agreeing a €20m (£16m) deal with Sevilla for left-back Alberto Moreno, according to reports.

The Reds were strongly linked with Moreno during the early stages of the summer after boss Brendan Rodgers identified the 21-year-old as his key target to solve his problems at left-back this season.

Talks over a potential deal initially broke down after the two clubs failed to agree a fee, with Liverpool refusing to meet Sevilla’s £20m valuation after seeing their opening £14m bid rejected.

Reports last week suggested that negotiations had been resurrected with chief executive Ian Ayre travelling to Spain to try and wrap up a deal, and it looks like those talks have been successful with the Daily Mail claiming that a €20m (£16m) fee has now been agreed.

The newspaper states that the move should be concluded soon and Sevilla have already started planning for life without Moreno after making an enqiury over the availability of Sporting Lisbon’s Jefferson Nascimento.

Moreno is regarded as one of Spain’s most promising young defenders and has already clocked up over 60 appearances for Sevilla over the past two seasons, while he narrowly missed out on a place in Vicente Del Bosque’s Spanish World Cup squad this summer.

If these reports are accurate and the deal goes through smoothly then it will see Liverpool take their summer spending past the £100m mark after already splashing out over £80m on Emre Can, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi this summer.

Rodgers is also expected to complete a loan deal for Atletico Madrid’s Javier Manquillo after he arrived on Merseyside yesterday to undergo a medical, while the Northern Irishman could also still bring in another striker after pulling out of a deal to land Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers.
