Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has taken to Twitter to blast the decision not to send off Chelsea striker Diego Costa during their 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.

Zabaleta was dismissed midway through the second half at the Etihad Stadium today after receiving a second yellow card following a late tackle on Costa.

The Chelsea hitman reacted angrily to the challenge, pushing the Argentinean defender before putting his hands round his neck. However, Referee Mike Dean decided against sending him off and City had to see out the final 25 minutes with just 10 men.

It looked like it had cost the defending champions as Chelsea instantly took control of the game and took the lead through Andre Schurrle before Frank Lampard came off the bench to score against his former team and rescue a 1-1 draw for the home side.

Zabaleta took to Twitter this evening to apologise for getting himself sent off but also expressed his disbelief at the referees decision not to send Costa off too, and made his point by posting a photo of the Spaniard grabbing him by the throat.

Here’s a screenshot of what Zabaleta had to say:
