Manchester United have been handed a major double boost with the injuries to David De Gea and Daley Blind not as bad as first feared, according to reports.

Goalkeeper De Gea dislocated his little finger while training with the Spain squad last week and was initially expected to be on the sidelines for around four weeks.

However, the Daily Mail are reporting that the injury has improved drastically in recent days and the 24-year-old is now set for a swift return for this weekends trip to the Emirates.

De Gea has been allowed to remain with the Spain squad which indicates that the injury isn’t that serious and he’s due to be assessed by United’s medical team when he returns to Carrington, but so-called ‘sources’ have told the newspaper that the keeper has an “80% chance” of lining-up against Arsenal on Saturday evening.

This news will come as a major boost to Louis van Gaal as the Dutchman has had to deal with a crippling injury list all season and to lose De Gea would have been a huge blow. The Spaniard has been ever-present so far this campaign and has been one of United’s most consistent performers so it will be a big relief if he’s passed fit to play this weekend.

In what’s a double boost for United, the Daily Star are also reporting that Daley Blind’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Blind suffered the injury during Holland’s win over Latvia on Sunday and there were suggestions he could be facing two months on the sidelines.

However, while the Star believe the midfielder has damaged his medial knee ligament, they suggest the problem is only expected to keep the 24-year-old out for four weeks.

Obviously Blind will miss Saturday’s clash with Arsenal as well as subsequent fixtures against Hull, Stoke and Southampton but he could return for the visit of Liverpool on the 14th December.

It will be a huge relief for van Gaal to have his midfield enforcer back for the festive period as United have limited options in midfield behind the Dutch international with Michael Carrick’s on-going injury problems.
