Transfer News: Chelsea & Liverpool Battle For £42m Duo

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool are set to do battle off the field with both clubs linked with moves for star duo Roberto Soldado and Fernando Reges.

Spanish Hitman Soldado Touted

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Valencia striker Roberto Soldado and were rumoured to have had a bid turned down in the summer. With Liverpool’s striking problems this season, it’s thought the Merseysiders will renew their interest this month.

However, reports today have claimed Chelsea are also monitoring the 26-year-old with Andre Villas-Boas keen to add striking reinforcements to his squad. Nicolas Anelka has already departed to China, while Didier Drogba has also been offered record-breaking wages to move to the far East.

Soldado has been in prolific form for Valencia in recent seasons and is finally breaking into the Spanish national team set-up, and it’s believed he has a £30m release clause in his contract.

Fernando Reges tracked

Porto midfielder Fernando Reges is also wanted by both Chelsea and Liverpool. The Reds are on the look-out for a midfield anchor-man following injury to Lucas, while Chelsea are also keen to add cover to their defensive midfield department amid fears over the long-term fitness of the injured Michael Essien.

Fernando, affectionately nicknamed as the ‘beast’ by his team-mates due to his imposing frame and attitude on the pitch, is a no-nonsense midfielder who would add steal to the middle of the park.

Porto are reported to be willing to listen to offers for the 26-year-old Brazilian and may be willing to do business for a fee in the region of £12m.

If liverpool signs the two, it will give a strong signal to all contenders this season itself.

I would have added one more in …the likes of Hazard.

Then focus on the top most position from then onwards.

    Go for the KD

how desperate can a player be to sign a contract with such a clause in it ????

what did hulk think, let me make sure 5 years i have 10 quid coming in my account regularly helps with the bills???
was he afraid of the credit crunch?? or simply inexperienced / not knowing what he was doing?

with that £85m release clause he will rot at porto, unless porto want to sell him for about £30-£35m!

    yeah chelsea needs to freshen up;
i would have a rule, each year 3 players MUST GO from the club and 3 new ones MUST COME IN, regardless; like the teams in the premiere league this happens every year!

thus we will not end up with the whole team being too old (like now after years of not buying almost anything 2008-09-10)!

mata, romeu, sturridge just did that this year!! still curious what they will amount to @ chelsea!

Saldado has started ahead of Torres on the Spanish national team on some ocassions already and has a buyout clause of 30m? What on earth is CFC waiting for? There is no better sign of who the Spanish think is the better hitman. And does anyone really think Essien at 28 can come back from 3 back to back to back knee operations and be the bullwark he has been in midfield? For 12million, Porto’s Reges is the best investment here. The young kid at Everton is good but 20 million? NOT!!!!!! Saldado, Cavani, Reges, Cahill and bring back the EPL championship and the CL to stamford bridge. Layout about 89million, Sell Alex, Kalou, Anelka, Molouda, Drogba get back about 25-30 million (net outlay 59-64million) and that is successful transfer business in any language.

I am amazed to hear Liverpool wants to spend another 42m pds!! You mean totally wasting 75m pds on complete duds like Carroll, Downing and Henderson wasn’t enough? Anyway, these rumors are just rumors. I didn’t hear John W Henry growing a money tree. He probably is waiting for an explanation from Dalglish the has-been.
