Lazio vs Tottenham Preview: Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Tottenham are in Italy to play Lazio in their Europa League tie hoping to secure a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
Spurs currently sit second in Group J on six points and will progress to the last 32 if they can collect all three points tonight against leaders Lazio and hope Panathinaikos avoid defeat at home to Maribor.
The match has been over-shadowed by off-field trouble in Rome, with a number of travelling supporters injured after being attacked in Lazio ‘Ultras’ on Wednesday night.
Former Lazio and Tottenham player, Paul Gascoigne, will be the guest of honor at the Stadio Olimpico for the game and the hosts are hoping his appearance will generate some interest amongst the fans and improve their poor recent attendances.
Lazio will be without striker Miroslav Klose for the match after he picked up an injury during their 0-0 draw with Juventus at the weekend. Mario Zarate is expected to deputise up front, although Sergio Floccari and Libor Kozak are also in contention.
Andre Villas-Boas will once again be without Mousa Dembele. The Midfielder has travelled with the squad and trained on Thursday morning but won’t be considered for the game.
Defender Steven Caulker should recover in time to line-up in defence with Michael Dawson likely to be given a run out. Scott Parker has returned to light training but did not travel, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul remain on the sidelines.
Goalkeeper Brad Friedel has been left back in London meaning Hugo Lloris is expected to start in goal.
Lazio head into the game off the back of a moral boosting draw away to champions Juventus while Tottenham were beaten 5-2 by rivals Arsenal on Saturday. It’s going to be a tricky test for the Londoners and we can see the game ending in a draw. Lazio 1-1 Spurs.
