Robin van Persie left the Liberty Stadium wearing a protective boot after picking up an injury during Manchester United’s 2-1 loss at Swansea on Saturday afternoon.

The Dutchman had only just returned from injury having missed last weeks FA Cup win over Preston North End and passed a late fitness test to start against Swansea today.

However, it looks as though the 31-year-old could be set for another spell on the sidelines as he injured his right leg while attempting a cross during the later stages of the game.

van Persie stayed on the field and saw out the remaining minutes as United chased a late equaliser because Louis van Gaal had already made his three permitted substitutions.

However, the striker left the Liberty Stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot and van Gaal told ManUtd.com after the game that RVP could not run anymore after suffering the injury.

“We dominated the game even with 10 men because Robin van Persie could not run anymore after the injury.”

United will now be left sweating over the severity of the problem as they face a crunch few weeks that sees them play the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool in the Premier League, as well as host Arsenal in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
