[Video Goals] Man Utd 2-0 Sunderland: Rooney Double Sends Utd Third

By on February 28, 2015

Manchester United moved back up to third spot in the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Wayne Rooney was the hero as the England striker scored both goals but the game didn’t go off without it’s controversy.

After a goalless first half, United were gifted the perfect opportunity to open the scoring when Radamel Falcao was pulled back in the area by John O’Shea. A penalty was awarded but somehow the referee got the identity of the offending player mixed up and sent Wes Brown off instead.

Rooney made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0 and he doubled the hosts advantage shortly after when he was on hand to head home from close range after Adnan Januzaj’s effort was parried.

The win sees United leapfrog Arsenal back into third ahead of the Gunners clash with Everton on Sunday afternoon.
