Arsenal To Make £20m+ Bid For Man Utd Target, Personal Terms Already Agreed
Arsene Wenger will make a bid in excess of £20m for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin this summer with personal terms already agreed with the midfielder
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are once again linked with Morgan Schneiderlin….
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will make a bid in excess of £20m for Man Utd target Morgan Schneiderlin this summer with personal terms already understood to be have been agreed with the Southampton midfielder, according to reports.
Schneiderlin has been in superb form for Southampton over the past 18 months and has played a key role in helping the South Coast club maintain their push for a shock finish in the top four this season.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent months with Arsene Wenger continuing his interest from last summer, while reports have also suggested that Manchester United are keen on the French international with Louis van Gaal on the look out for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick.
However, it seems the Gunners are now ready to steal a march on their rivals as the Daily Star are reporting that Wenger will renew his interest in Schneiderlin at the end of the season and will test Southampton’s resolve with an offer in excess of £20m.
It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to persuade the Saints to cash in but it appears all that’s preventing a move from happening this summer is the two clubs agreeing a fee as the newspaper suggests that Schneiderlin has already agreed personal terms with the North Londoners.
It’s unclear how that could be possible unless Southampton have given Arsenal permission to hold talks with their player, which seems unlikely given that we’re in the middle of the season and no fee has been agreed.
However, it’s probably naive to think that secret talks with agents don’t happen behind a clubs back, so maybe someone representing Arsenal has agreed personal terms in principal with the agents of Schneiderlin ahead of a potential move in the summer.
Either way, it seems the French international is once again going to be in demand at the end of the season and I think he’d be an excellent signing for one of the ‘big boys’.
He’d be the perfect fit at the Emirates as they’ve been crying out for an athletic holding midfielder and although Francis Coquelin has done extremely well since returning to the club, Wenger needs competition and depth in the defensive midfield area so I fully expect him to go back in for his compatriot.
I wouldn’t discount United though as van Gaal is likely to splash the cash again this summer and he’s already hinted he’s planning to strengthen his midfield. Carrick will be 34 soon and Schneiderlin would be an excellent replacement for the Veteran Englishman.
