By on March 4, 2015

Chelsea ground out a hard fought 1-0 win over London rivals West Ham on Wednesday night thanks to an excellent first half header from Eden Hazard.

The newly crowned Capital One Cup winners started brightly and shortly after Thibaut Courtois had made a fine save to deny the Hammers, Chelsea opened the scoring as Hazard was on hand to head home from a fine Ramires cross in the 22nd minute.

Both sides had chances to score after the break with Courtois and Adrian pulling off some fine saves, but the Blues held on to secure a vital three points.

The win ensures Jose Mourinho’s side maintain their five-point lead over Manchester City after they beat Leicester 2-0 this evening – although Chelsea have also got a game in hand.
